What is the Inc. 5000 List?

The Inc. 500 list ranks companies by their overall growth over a three-year period, using 2014 revenues as a base for growth calculations. The companies listed also must be privately-owned, based in the United States and not a subsidiary or division of another company. Inc. shared the origins of the awards, “In 1982, Inc. introduced the Inc. 500 list of fastest-growing privately held companies in the United States. Since then, this prestigious list of the nation’s most successful private companies has become the hallmark of entrepreneurial success and the place where future household names first make their mark”. Inc. expanded the list to 5,000 in 2007, “giving readers a deeper, richer understanding of the entrepreneurial landscape and capturing a broader spectrum of success. Today, the list is a distinguished editorial award, a celebration of innovation, a network of entrepreneurial leaders, and an effective public relations showcase.”

The top five in this year’s Inc. 5000 ranking are diverse companies with the largest revenue growth over a 3-year period:

  • Swan Leap: Swan Leap creates software to help companies in their shipping logistics.
  • Pop Sockets: Pop Sockets are everywhere. They are the self-adhesive, collapsible or expandable mobile phone grips.
  • Home Chef: Home Chef is the meal-kit delivery service with fresh, pre-proportioned ingredients and easy to use recipes.
  • Velocity Global: Velocity Global is a global recruiting, immigration, payroll and consulting firm that helps organizations with global expansion.
  • DEPCOM Power: DEPCOM Power provides engineering, operations, procurement and construction services to solar energy product companies.
